A healthy kebab recipe? Really? Yes really! These Moroccan Chicken Gyros are like a ‘dirty’ kebab without the calories! We make this recipe at least once a week and very often will make these on a Saturday and when we get home from a night out just pop them straight under the grill for the perfect beer munch(ok so often is a stretch, we are parents of two young children so our Saturday ‘nights out’ are few and far between!). When we first started making these we used to get the butcher to bone our chicken thighs, now they are readily available in supermarkets already butchered. The kids love these and its a much better healthy family food than the alternative!
These are also a brilliant stow shopper for a BBQ, they look so impressive when you just slice the meat off and pop it in a pitta bread. Once you’ve tried these you will always opt for the healthy kebab recipe and theres no risk of adding spicy spuds to your order at the kebab shop!
Herby Style Chicken
We love this meal, its basically a bit more of a grown up version of our Southern Style Chicken but makes a healthy family meal (we are all partial to a pinching a chicken nugget off our kids plates but we all know its not really a grown up meal!) With a bit more of a kick and a few more herbs but still a delicious Fakeaway chicken recipe and again is so simple to make. Its perfect for those on slimming plans who don’t want to cook a separate meal for everyone else in the family!
We love to have this one on a Saturday night, with the kids all of us round the table, with some Greedy Fox chips, just diving in! We used to do this with a KFC years ago but now we have these instead. Our daughter is coeliac so fakeaways are our new takeaways! This is cheaper and much healthier. Plus we often get the kids to make them (no child labour just teaching them) and because it is so simple they love the fact that they can eat what they have cooked! Our Slow Cooker Sausage Casserole is another one of those busy day, winning recipes and is a real budget meal too. You know the type of day when as a mum you need to be in 5 places at once and you’re still expected to actually feed the kids! We’ve made a slimming version of this meal and actually prefer it with reduced fat sausages. But its also great with a good old fashioned butchers sausage. It’s also one of those meals that is even better the next day so we always make enough to cover lunch too. To make this a healthy family food just use reduced fat sausages, they work just as well.
